Det här är världens värsta kolerautbrott, mitt i världens största humanitära katastrof. Bara under de senaste tre månaderna har 400,000 fall av misstänkt kolera, samt 1900 relaterade dödsfall dokumenterats.
Det är inte ens mitt på dagen i Satara, en avlägsen by i Nigers sydvästra Tillaberi-region, och termometern står redan på nära 40 grader Celsius. Den oasfalterade vägen till byn är gropig och sandig.

När jag vaknade upp den här morgonen i det vackra Rom var det svårt att föreställa sig att den här staden omkring år 400 e.Kr. genomlevde massiv hungersnöd som nästan tog livet på 90% av dess befolkning. Historieintresserade associerar något annat med den här tidpunkten i historien: början på det romerska imperiets fall.
Varför sökte du dig just hit?
Rakel: Jag var nyfiken på kommunikations- och påverkansarbete och ville kombinera det med min bakgrund inom internationell utveckling och hållbara livsmedelssystem. Det var dessutom lite av en dröm att få jobba i FN-staden i Köpenhamn. Här arbetar 1 600 personer från 108 olika länder på 11 olika FN-organ.
När vi hade vår första dag i UN City (FN-staden) i Köpenhamn i augusti såg situationen för coronapandemin ljusare ut i Danmark i jämförelse med andra platser i världen.
Den här nödinsatsen är möjlig tack vare svensk finansiering till program för att stärka sociala skydds- och hälsosystem, vilket WFP och UNICEF har implementerat tillsammans.
“När COVID-19 kom hade Sverige redan åtagit sig att bidra med omkring 222 miljoner SEK (US$ 25 miljoner) för att stödja Ugandas arbete för att förbättra lokalsamhällens- och hushålls resiliens bland flykting- och mottagarbe
