FN:s World Food Programme (WFP) är den ledande humanitära organisationen i världen som arbetar för att utrota hunger. WFP tillhandahåller livsmedelsassistans i nödsituationer och arbetar för att stärka samhällens näringsnivåer och motståndskraft.
Av: Edward Johnsson / WFP Afrika.Att utrota hunger och felnäring är en av de viktigaste och mest komplexa utmaningarna i vår tid. Vägen till en framtid utan hunger kräver flera tillvägagångssätt. Utöver att distribuera livsmedels- och kontantstöd där det finns behov så investerar WFP också i resiliens- och försörjningsaktiviteter som gör det möjligt för människor att hjälpa sig själva.
"Vi har gått igenom en tuff tid. Vi har ingenting i huset: inga möbler, ingen mat och inga pengar. Ibland stannar jag sent för att arbeta och när jag kommer hem försöker jag att inte väcka barnen. Om jag skulle väcka dem hade de sagt att de ville ha middag." Walid har tidigare arbetat som tjänsteman i Jemen, han har förlorat nästan allt i konflikten som pågått i landet sedan 2015.
Beasley’s besök inträffar samtidigt som Libanon står inför en trefaldig kris orsakat av explosionen, en ekonomisk kollaps och effekterna av COVID-19-viruset. Han spenderade tre dagar i Libanon och besökte hamnarna i Beirut och Tripoli, där han bevittnade matutdelningar och tillhandahållandet av livsmedel från lokala kök, som drivs av WFP:s partner Caritas.

I Port Sudan, där tiotusentals människor söker skydd på flykt undan konflikt, har farligt höga nivåer av undernäring uppmätts hos spädbarn. Hungriga människor fyller skolor och andra provisoriska bostäder och klamrar sig fast vid knappa ägodelar från sina gamla liv.
