I Port Sudan, där tiotusentals människor söker skydd på flykt undan konflikt, har farligt höga nivåer av undernäring uppmätts hos spädbarn. Hungriga människor fyller skolor och andra provisoriska bostäder och klamrar sig fast vid knappa ägodelar från sina gamla liv.
OUGADOUGOU/KÖPENHAMN – Förenta Nationernas World Food Programme (WFP) varnar idag om en eskalerande humanitär kris som drivs av vidsträckt våld och de långvariga effekterna av klimatförändring som drabbat Burkina Faso och grannländerna i centrala Sahel i Västafrika.
Nadifa Ibrahim visar stolt upp det senaste tillskottet till sitt hem: en gasbehållare och brännare, på vilken hon brygger en kanna starkt lokalt te.
"Det är effektivt, det är användbart - och vi undviker att attackeras när vi letar efter ved", säger Nadifa, som kommer från Sudans Darfur-region och nu bor i ett flyktingläger i östra Tchad.

McCain, som har tjänstgjort sedan 2021 som USA:s ambassadör till FN:s tre livsmedels- och jordbruksorgan i Rom, övertar ledningen för en organisation som förra året försedde rekordhöga antalet 158 miljoner människor runt om i världen med livsmedelsassistans.
Konflikter, ekonomiska chocker, extremt klimat och skyhöga priser på gödningsmedel skapar tillsammans en livsmedelskris av aldrig tidigare skådade proportioner. Så många som 783 miljoner människor står inför kronisk hunger.
Barn som gråter av hunger och dör av undernäring. Människor som riskerar att bli beskjutna för att nå fram till hjälpkonvojer och som tvingas leva på djurfoder och soppa gjord på löv och gräs.
