Moses är en far till tre och på fritiden är han en biodlare. Moses har jobbat för FN:s livsmedelsprogram (WFP) i 15 år och är nu på frontlinjen i WFP:s arbete med flyktingkrisen i Uganda. Under World Humanitarian Day (19 augusti) vill vi dela hans historia.I en våldsam och konfliktdrabbad region, är Uganda värd för världens tredje största flyktingpopulation.

I Port Sudan, där tiotusentals människor söker skydd på flykt undan konflikt, har farligt höga nivåer av undernäring uppmätts hos spädbarn. Hungriga människor fyller skolor och andra provisoriska bostäder och klamrar sig fast vid knappa ägodelar från sina gamla liv.
Barn som gråter av hunger och dör av undernäring. Människor som riskerar att bli beskjutna för att nå fram till hjälpkonvojer och som tvingas leva på djurfoder och soppa gjord på löv och gräs.
Sociala skyddsnät kan hjälpa människor att hantera de risker de står inför, såsom fattigdom, social utestängning, ojämlikhet och livsmedelsotrygghet, och skydda de mest utsatta från chocker och stress under hela livet.
Smala gränder ringlar sig nedför backen och in mellan de tätt packade plåtskjulen. Den här labyrinten av trånga gator rymmer de hundratals hem som utgör Moroto Simitini.
Byn ligger i Kenyas kuststad Mombasa, där World Food Programme (WFP) förser familjer som har förlorat sin inkomst på grund av COVID-19 med nödhjälp i form av kontantöverföringar.
“För miljontals barn runt om i världen är den måltid de får i skolan den enda regelbundna och näringsrika måltiden de har tillgång till under en dag. Utan den går de hungriga, de riskerar att bli sjuka, att hoppa av skolan och därmed förlora sin bästa chans att undkomma fattigdom.
Konflikter, ekonomiska chocker, extremt klimat och skyhöga priser på gödningsmedel skapar tillsammans en livsmedelskris av aldrig tidigare skådade proportioner. Så många som 783 miljoner människor står inför kronisk hunger.
