"Vi har gått igenom en tuff tid. Vi har ingenting i huset: inga möbler, ingen mat och inga pengar. Ibland stannar jag sent för att arbeta och när jag kommer hem försöker jag att inte väcka barnen. Om jag skulle väcka dem hade de sagt att de ville ha middag." Walid har tidigare arbetat som tjänsteman i Jemen, han har förlorat nästan allt i konflikten som pågått i landet sedan 2015.
Beasley’s besök inträffar samtidigt som Libanon står inför en trefaldig kris orsakat av explosionen, en ekonomisk kollaps och effekterna av COVID-19-viruset. Han spenderade tre dagar i Libanon och besökte hamnarna i Beirut och Tripoli, där han bevittnade matutdelningar och tillhandahållandet av livsmedel från lokala kök, som drivs av WFP:s partner Caritas.
Den här nödinsatsen är möjlig tack vare svensk finansiering till program för att stärka sociala skydds- och hälsosystem, vilket WFP och UNICEF har implementerat tillsammans.
